Chaalis Chauraasi (4046) – Movie Review

Director Hriday Shetty's latest Hindi film Chaalis Chauraasi, which boasts of casting of talented actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni and Ravi Kishen, had created a lot of expectations among the movie buffs. But its ordinary story does not stand high up to their stature.

Chaalis Chauraasi is crime comedy film and stellar performance by lead actors is the major highlight in it. But the movie has more demerits than the plus points. Boring music and badly executed action scenes. The film starts out as a comic caper, but ends with displaying of blood and gore. In between, one can not stop yawning.

Sir Pankaj Suri (Naseeruddin Shah), Albert (Kay Kay Menon), Bobby (Atul Kulkarni) and Shakti (Ravi Kishan) are cops and
they see an opportunity to a great future when they are given a mission to pull off. Things take a twist when another cop (Rajesh Sharma) stops their van en-route and takes them as his backup to catch a dangerous gangster (Zakir Hussain).

Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni and Ravi Kishan have delivered wonderful performance and the movie should be watched for their stellar performances. But the Hriday Shetty has wasted their talent. There is nothing much to talk about Lalit Pandit's music. Dialogues are good in parts. Overall, the film can be watched for lead stars.

Producer: Sachin Awasthee, Uday Shetty and Anuya Mhaiskar

Director: Hriday Shetty

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kissen

Music: Lalit Pandit

Story: Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh) is a young and charming conman who dupes girls for a living. Three of those conned include Dimple (Parineeti Chopra), Raina (Dipannita Sharma) and Saira (Aditi Sharma). The trio decides to take revenge and hire Ishika Desai (Anushka Sharma) to carry out their plan. So is it time for redemption or checkmate?

Review: Maneesh Sharma hit the jackpot with Band Baaja Baarat. The film did exceptionally well raising the bar for both Maneesh and the cast (which is almost the same) in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl. Luckily, Maneesh’s second film not only manages to, but rather surpasses the verve, zing and presence of its predecessor.

Ranveer probably deserves the most claps for an extremely convincing performance as Sunny, Deven, Iqbal and finally Ricky. He plays every role with a zest that is clearly visible on the big screen. He comes across as classy and entertaining.

The surprise elements of the film are the three girls who have done a wonderful job in depicting their character. Parineeti Chopra especially stands out, with her impeccable comic timing. Dipannita is convincing in her role of a poised corporate woman but may not have done enough to mark her comeback. Aditi Sharma plays her character well and is quite impressive.

Anushka Sharma looks superb throughout the movie, though the same cannot be said of her acting. Her performance in the movie is at best, average.

The first half of the movie is fast paced and exciting. The second half becomes a little slow in bits and parts but the script, the dialogues and the music are good enough a disguise to keep you from noticing the lag.
The spirited performance of the girls, the foot-thumping music and Ranveer’s convincing acting warrants a 3.5 star rating for Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl.sa
